Our mission as an all-volunteer rescue is to improve the lives of dogs and cats by providing rescue and foster care, increasing access to spay and neuter services, and promoting responsible pet ownership through education and advocacy. By working with volunteers, clinics, and community partners in Louisa and surrounding areas, we connect people and pets while building a more humane future.
A future where foster-based rescue ensures that every animal receives individualized care, emotional healing, and the opportunity for a forever home.
The Louisa Humane Society was formed in 2001 by concerned citizens who recognized that the Louisa County Animal Shelter was in very poor condition and its daily operation was underfunded, understaffed, and generally inadequate for the growing numbers of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats in Louisa County.
The Louisa Humane Society is incorporated with a non-profit 501(c)(3) status.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference.
