Public Spay Neuter Program

The Louisa Humane Society (LHS) is proud to provide high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter services to the residents of Louisa County. Currently, we offer these essential services for dogs and cats only. Please note that the Louisa Humane Society Public Spay/Neuter Program is not available to breeders of dogs and/or cats.

Before you complete the online application, it’s important to understand that these low-cost services are designed for those who may not otherwise afford to have their pets sterilized. If you can take your pet to your primary care veterinarian in Louisa VA, we encourage you to do so.

To ensure a safe procedure, adult dogs and cats must be in good health and at a healthy weight. Elderly and/or overweight pets may face higher risks for complications, so caution is required when scheduling these services; the veterinarian in Louisa VA may decline services based on their assessment.

According to the Code of Virginia, all dogs and cats must receive a rabies vaccine before reaching 4 months of age (§ 3.2-6521). This vaccine must be administered by a licensed veterinarian or a licensed veterinary technician under the direct supervision of a veterinarian. Our spay/neuter clinic will provide this vaccination at the time of surgery if your pet has not yet been vaccinated. If your pet has a current rabies vaccine, please bring proof of the certificate from a licensed Louisa County vet at check-in on the day of surgery.
