Vet Care Assistance Program
The Animal Care Assistance Program (ACAP) offers funding to low-income pet owners in rural Central Virginia and surrounding counties. They help people get veterinary care and medications for their pets and often other much needed services. ACAP is designed to help pet owners with basic preventative and interventional veterinary needs for cats and dogs only. You can apply for assistance on their website, www.acapva.org.

Pets for Patriots gives military veterans and their families the greatest "thank you" of all: the extraordinary love of a companion animal. Louisa Humane Society is proud to be part of the Pets for Patriots nationwide network of trusted adoption and veterinary partners. To participate, veterans must pre-quality with Pets for Patriots.
Benefits for qualified member patriots includes the following:
- Personalized assistance from our foster coordinators in finding a cat or dog who fits your home and lifestyle.
- Welcome home kit for your new pet.
- Discounted adoption fee.
Pets for Patriots Pet Eligibility, any of the following criteria make a pet eligible for a Pets for Patriots adoption.
- Dog or cat 2 years of age or older
- Dog or cat of any age with special needs
- Dog or cat who has been in our care for 6 months or more
- Dog of any age weighing 40 pounds or more at the time of adoption.
